Jen Malloy | 500RYT
I am a 500hr Registered Yoga Alliance Certified yoga and meditation teacher residing in Centerville, Ohio.
I teach vinyasa flow, vinyasa to yin, yoga nidra and lead guided meditations. I like to find a sense of play and dance-like movement within my practice, letting the spirit of Mother Earth to move through me. Most recently, I am creating a sacred circle space, the Shakti Circle, to cultivate a healing space meant to support one another in order to feel happier, healthier, and empowered in our own skin. This circle will blend art, movement, meditation, music, and space-holding to build a community of connection. I also love hosting events and traveling and I am welcoming any opportunities to do so!
My Yoga Journey
I first started practicing yoga after a lower back injury in 2010. Unable to find relief after several doctor appointments and medications, I was willing to try anything. I still remember the first day I decided to start my practice. I didn’t even own a yoga mat but I knew I wanted to give it a try. Unsure of where to start, I found a video on-demand channel, practicing on the carpet of the living room floor. When the 60 minutes were up, I went straight to the store to buy my first yoga mat. Something inside of me knew that this practice would be pivotal in my healing process not only in that moment, but for the years to come.
As I continued to practice daily, I noticed an amazing improvement in not only my back pain, but also my flexibility, the quality of my breath, and a reduction in anxiety and depression. Since I began my practice, I have faced many physical and emotional challenges and traumas, including healing through infertility, loss and grief, PTSD, and surviving a cancerous sarcoma tumor in 2017. I realized yoga keeps me going; it gives me reassurance to trust the process, to be in the present moment, and to live within a state of gratitude. Along the way, I have cleaned up my diet, made connections within my community that lift me up and inspire me, and have a more positive outlook on my life.
Eventually, I took my home practice out into the world and began attending various yoga festivals, which were absolutely life-changing. In fact, it was at the 2017 Wanderlust festival in Snowshoe, West Virginia that I had the realization that I needed to be a yoga teacher. Shortly after, I began to attend classes at a local studio, Grace Tree Yoga Studio. I met my teacher, Kim Dawes, and in April of 2018, I graduated from her 200hr yoga teacher training program, White Lotus Home. I have been teaching and coordinating yoga events ever since, including becoming a brand ambassador for the Wanderlust Yoga Festival in 2018. In 2019-2020, I studied Trauma Sensitive yoga with Becky Morrissey and Kundalini yoga with Ravi Singh. In 2022, I joined a 300hr advanced teacher training with Kim Dawes and Lila Lolling, with a special interest in teaching yoga for trauma sensitive populations. As a yoga teacher, I strive to inspire students to explore their own healing journey, to find peace and hope where they may feel hopeless, and to regain their personal power.
